The drug Lenakast has an active antitumor effect and contains the substance lenalidamide, which belongs to the group of medications that actively affect the functioning of the immune system.
Pharmachologic effect
The drug is designed to directly act on the human body’s immune system and stimulate immunity to attack cancer cells.
Thanks to this technique it is possible to achieve:
• inhibition of tumor growth;
• slowing down the appearance of new blood vessels in the tumor;
• stimulation of immunity to destroy neoplastic cells.
Indications
The medicine is intended for effective treatment in the presence of multiple myelomas, myelodysplastic syndrome, lymph contained in the area of the maitia zone, which represents diseases of blood cells and bone marrow.
Side effects
Based on clinical studies of the drug, we can confidently say that the drug is well tolerated by patients and leads to positive treatment results.
But despite this, some patients may experience side effects such as:
• venous thromboembolism;
• neutropenia;
• thrombocytopenia;
• leukopenia;
• anemia;
• lymphatia;
• vein thrombosis;
• sharp decrease in blood pressure;
• cramps and muscle spasms;
• hypoesthesia;
• tremor of the limbs;
• shortness of breath during physical exertion;
• skin rashes;
• severe itching;
• excessive weakness.
If the patient has infectious diseases and infestations, pneumonia may occur. If a patient experiences any of the symptoms, it is necessary to immediately notify the attending physician, who will be able to prescribe treatment to eliminate unwanted symptoms.
Contraindications
The drug has a wide range of applications, but in some cases its use for the treatment of cancer is strictly prohibited.
Among such cases:
• pregnancy;
• breastfeeding a child;
• the patient is of childbearing age;
• inability to comply with contraceptive measures;
• minor age;
• allergic reaction to any of the components included in the drug.
The drug is not used to treat patients with cancer, provided they have hypersensitivity to the main substance and additional components.
Mode of application
Therapy using Lenakast should only be carried out under the supervision of a treating doctor who knows how to use anti-cancer medications. The doctor independently prescribes the dosage regimen and dosage of the drug, taking into account the characteristics of the patient’s body, concomitant diseases, weight and the body’s response to treatment.
It is recommended to prescribe no more than 10-25 mg. Lenakast per day.
