Docekast Docetaxel solution for injection 20mg/ml 4ml 80mg instructions for use
Compound
The main functional element is docetaxel.
Production form
The drug is produced in the form of a solution that is introduced into the body through injection. The drug is sold in packages, each of which contains one bottle.
Pharmacodynamics
A cancer cell can only divide and multiply if its nucleus splits. The two halves must be separated. In this case, the cell participates in the process of microtubule formation. On the one hand, the threads are fixed to the cell wall inside, on the other, to one of the halves of the cell nucleus. When the filaments are shortened, the halves of the nucleus move apart, resulting in the formation of walls of two daughter cells in the resulting space.
In the described process, a process such as cell division deserves special attention. The use of docetaxel promotes the formation of more microtubules. Moreover, it inhibits their degradation for reuse. Proliferation gradually stops due to the fact that the process described above leads to the gradual extinction of the so-called “building material”. The cells that contribute to cancer formation are most affected. This is due to their rapid division, which is much faster than the division of normal cells.
Indications for use
The drug is used in the treatment of oncology. It can be used both in separate form and in combination with other components. Areas of use include lung and stomach cancer, prostate cancer, and head and neck cancer.
Contraindications
Docetaxel should not be used by patients who are allergic to both the drug as a whole and to the individual components that make up it. It should also not be used by people whose blood counts deviate from normal values.
By-effect
The most dangerous negative side effects are: heart failure, sepsis and pneumonia in various forms. Most often, patients complain about the condition and functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, the appearance of pain in various parts of the body, and disorders associated with the functioning of the nervous system. Swelling along with increased susceptibility to infections are some of the side effects that are observed in a number of patients.
Drug interactions
The properties and characteristics of the drug can be changed by using cyclosporine, terfenadine — a drug widely used in the fight against allergies, and antibiotics. Docetaxel should be used with extreme caution in patients using ritonavir, antifungal medications, and other agents.
Application and dose
The dose directly depends on the patient’s weight and condition. The treating specialist must calculate the body surface area in m2, after which he determines the dosage. In most cases, the dose varies within the range from 75 mg/m2 to 100.
Exceeding the dose
To date, no cases of overdose have been identified.
